This summer has been a phenomenal ride! After my first year teaching at the University of West Georgia, I headed back to Arizona for some quality time with friends. While there I taught my first online class (Theatre Appreciation), coached private voice clients, choreographed Not Quite Disney's Toy Story at Camp Kidz in Chandler, and got engaged!
After all that, I went further west and spent a month in California staying with old friends. It wasn't all leisure, however! During that month I participated and completed Part 1 of the Fitzmaurice Voicework® Associate Teacher Certification Program XIV. By this time next year, I will be a certified Assistant Teacher working towards Associate Teacher status. During my time in Los Angeles, I also began my training as a Reiki teacher with the beautiful Sheila Gabrielsen. I am currently studying Reiki Level 2 and loving every minute of it.
Following California, I came back east for some much-needed family time before jumping right back into academia.
That first week back was a doozy! On August 23rd, I got a year older. On August 24th, I started teaching a new semester of students. On August 25th, we held auditions for our Fall Season. On August 26th, we had callbacks and casts assigned. And on August 27th, I started rehearsals directing the musical Side Show at the University of West Georgia. With phenomenal choreography by Ricardo Aponte, fabulous costumes by Erik Teague, a gorgeous set by Brad Darvas, and an immense 444-page score directed by Ed Thrower, this show has been a challenge! But it's all coming together thanks to the patience and drive of our talented artists. The show will run from October 7-10 at 7:30pm and October 10-11 at 2:30pm.
Though the challenges are immense, I'm also working on writing my first full-length play Giving Thanks, a relationship/family dramedy centered around impressing the folks and failing marvelously.
